This Curried Chickpea Salad is a healthier spin on your favorite curried chicken salad! A creamy, perfectly spiced yogurt dressing brings it all together.

I worked at Whole Foods for a grand total of two months. While the discount on groceries was nice, my favorite part was being in constant proximity to heaps of curried chicken salad. Those who’ve had it know that stuff is gooooooood. Like, rull good.
So when I finished my long and exhausting tenure as a Whole Foods cashier, I was heartbroken to be far away from my precious curried chicken salad. Fortunately, I learned to make it myself, and I might even go so far as to say I like mine BETTER. Yeah.

The best part of this version? It’s so amazingly healthy and still delicious. I’ve swapped out the chicken for chickpeas to add some plant-based protein, but you can always swap it out for chicken if you’re into that sort of thing. Just don’t knock the chickpeas till you try ’em. They really jive with that creamy curry dressing.
And speaking of the dressing, what if I told you there’s no mayo in this? Zip. Nada. Nary a single spoonful of mayo made it into this dressing, and it’s still creamy and spiced and perfect in every way. The secret is a combo of Greek yogurt and olive oil, plus a big ol’ scoop of yellow curry powder.

My favorite way to enjoy this is on a warm, buttery croissant, but if you’re looking for something lighter, it’s fantastic all wrapped up in a lettuce leaf, too. Or, for maximum ease of eating, you can enjoy it all by itself. You’ll never miss store-bought chicken salad again.

Ingredients
- 2 (15 ounce) cans chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 small red onion, finely diced
- 2 stalks celery, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup raisins
- A handful of chopped fresh herbs, like parsley, cilantro, or mint
- 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon mild curry powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
- Kosher salt + black pepper
Instructions
- Make the salad: In a medium bowl, combine chickpeas, red onion, celery, raisins, and fresh herbs.
- Make the dressing: Stir together the yogurt, olive oil, honey, curry powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.
- Mix it up: Pour the dressing over the salad and mix it all together. Enjoy in lettuce wraps, on a croissant, or even by itself!
